Back in June at PhillyDH@Penn, I presented a workshop called “Social Media Tech Tools,” which provided a show-and-tell of six different social media tools that we use here at WIC and some tips about using social media to engage our audiences. The workshop took place in Van Pelt Library’s new Collaborative Classroom, which encourages flipped classroom and active learning methods via the room setup and technology. The room is also conducive to socializing as folks are collaborating and moving around the room, making it an ideal space to discuss social media.
On a particularly cold night in late-January, WIC was hopping with food, warmth, and a plethora of travel stories at our annual Penn International Experiences Festival. It was our most popular festival to date with about 200 attendees. We welcomed 60 presenters who shared their experiences studying abroad in six continents and 29 different countries. Presenters were available to chat in the different booths and rooms marked with country flags, and students walked around to visit nations to gather information about studying abroad. Kelly Cleary from Career Services and Ancil George from Penn Libraries made presentations and we also learned about the new student magazine Stamped. Some presenters dressed up, adding a touch of authenticity to the event! And, last but not least, students enjoyed a great variety of food (so sorry for the long lines!). Check out our Flickr set for more pictures of the evening. Continue reading Sharing Study Abroad Experiences on a Cold Winter’s Night
iPads in the classroom and in the library! Librarians at Penn recently had a chance to explore mobile technology with the iPads at WIC.
We really enjoyed the crowds and AMAZING weather at Monday’s College Palooza. Check out our Flickr photos including this one of the Penn Libraries table. People seemed quite excited to answer questions about Penn Libraries and win mugs, frisbees and pens. Congratulations to Penn DAB for another fine Palooza! (And a shout out to David Toccafondi for another great set of photos!)
