Superheroes, Ninjas, and Starship Captains Apply Within

Screen Shot 2013-02-05 at 1.31.47 PMAs long as I’ve been working here at the Penn Libraries, I’ve heard library users ask, “Do you have any audio books here?”  And the answer has always been “No. No, we don’t.”

But my dad (thanks, Dad!)  just sent me a link to a great website called The Audio Drama Directory, which has cataloged all of the FREE dramatized audio they can find on the internet and brought them together under one roof where you can find them and access them at your leisure.  I’m a big fan of audio books, and they’re great to listen to in installments–on your daily bus ride or walk to work, on the train, in-between classes, at lunch, or just while you relax at home.  Just download them to your phone, computer, or iPod, and you’re ready to go.

My favorite is the Action/Adventure section, but they’ve got stuff from lots of genres, including mystery, drama, horror, comedy, foreign language, old-time radio, sci-fi, and more.  (I was glad to see Scott Sigler’s books included in the directory.  I listened to his sci-fi novel Earthcore a few years ago and became a big fan. I remember turning down lunch invitations so I could listen to the next installment!)  They’ve even gone to the trouble of rating them for content (PG, PG-13, R, etc.)

There are also some staff-recommended books, which should save you the trouble of hit-or-missing your way through the directory as you try to find something worthwhile to listen to.

If you’re aware of a show that’s not currently listed, you can submit it to the directory.

So give them a listen and let us know what you think of this great site.
