I just read about Apple’s update to the controversial “Final Cut Pro X” software release on Sterling Ledet’s G+ feed. (I’m still catching up on old news. Sorry.) Apple has apparently added a lot of features that people have been griping (and/or panicking) about since it was first released.
It’s good to know that Apple hasn’t actually forgotten about professional video editors. See Apple’s page on the update (with more details on each of the added features) at http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/software-update.html
Perhaps more significantly, a third-party plugin has emerged that allows you to bring your FCP 7 projects into FCPX. The lack of such an ability was the #1 complaint of FCP users world-round. Read about the $10 7toX plugin at http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/
Keep in mind that I haven’t actually tried any of this stuff yet, but it certainly sounds promising, and it’s definitely a step in the right direction. We’ll install the update soon here in the lab. We’ll track the plugin and find out whether it’s worth purchasing, and add it to our machines if it proves worthwhile.
